This has been a warm day This forenoon I trimmed some peach trees This afternoon I was digging around peach trees Quit work about six oclock and have been reading in a book on phrenology

A warm day and this afternoon cloudy I was digging around peach trees today I received two letter today one from Mr. Ramsey (Loveland) and one from cousin Lizzie I read Lizzies letter with a great deal of interest as I do all her letters Wrote a letter for J Noland to Mollie Roe

June 3
This fornoon cloudy and some cooler I
worked for J Howell helping clean off a piece of ground for the plow I have not felt very well today This evening I wrote a letter to Maggie Dobbs also one to sister Mollie Lefever


June 4
This has been a very warm day I went to Dresden with the wagon I feel very tired and not very well I saw several in town today of my aquaintance A lady friend whom I was not expecting to see W E N I shall retire soon

June 5
A pleasant day I went to the PO this morning Received a letter from Emma which I read with great interest This afternoon I have digging around trees It is now after nine and I shall retire

This forenoon cloudy I helped plant corn a part of the forenoon This afternoon we had a very nice rain I have been reading some Combes Lectures on Phrenology Time passes pleasantly Hopes for the future are buoyant promising a great deal of enjoyment

Very cool this morning and has continued so all day I have been at home today reading and writing  Wrote a letter to my friend Emma in answer to one received the 5th Tis pleasant to correspond with so true a friend and  always so prompt

Very cool all day I went to the PO this morning but did not get any letters Called to see H B Smith as I came home who lately returned from ILL with a bride to cheer him along lifes pathway I have been sowing in the peach nursery this afternoon Have been reading some since dark

Very cool for the time of year Considerable frost this morning in the lowlands I have been hoeing in the peach nursery part of the day Helped plant some beets etc etc This evening I have been reading in Combes Lectures


June 11
A very fine day Rather cool for the time of year I was hauling rails this forenoon and a part of the afternoon This evening I have been reading in Coombes Lectures Find them very interesting as well as instructing

June 12
A very warm day I went to the PO this morning Received two letters one from cousin Lizzie and one from Emma I took great pleasure in perusing them This afternoon I was sawing shingle timber and I have been reading in Coombes Lectures this evening

June 13
A very pleasant day This morning I sawed some shingle timber We hitched up to the wagon and went a fishing Had very poor luck Carne home feeling very tired I do not feel like reading any this evening I shall retire soon

June 14
This has been a warm day I wrote a letter to my friend Emma in answer in one received the 12th This afternoon I went to the valley to hear Mr Bombarger preach There was a very good turnout and he preach a very lengthy sermon being over two hous long

June 15
This has been an uncommon warm day I commenced hoeing peach trees this morning and Mr Shepherd came to make shingles and I quit to help him This afternoon I have been hoeing some I do not feel like reading any this evening and shall retire early

June 16
This morning wet It commenced raining the night and continued un till 8 or 9 oc I bolted up and hauled in some shingle timber this afternoon This afternoon I sawed some shingle timber We had some young ladies here today and I enjoy myself in their society this evening awhile Miss Fulks Miss Millers Miss Norma Hood Miss Graham

June 17
A very warm day I was digging around the peach trees this fornoon in the nursery This afternoon I helped shear some sheep and hauled in some shingle timber I did not feel much like reading any this evening

June 18
This has been a warm day I have been picking cherries today and I feel very tired tonite - I shall retire early for I shall have to be up by two oc to go to Coshocton tomorrow and I do not feel that it will be a desireable trip

June 19
I got up this morning at one oc to go to Coshocton It commenced raining soon after and we had quite a shower Started at 3 oc The day has been very warm and I have had considerable trouble getting rid of my cherries Left Coshocton after 4 and did not get home until midnight

June 20
I have felt rather stupid all day from loss of sleep and have not worked much I started to crossroads this morning for the mail but found it at Uncle Eds and did not go further I received a letter from Emma which I read with interest I have been reading some in A.K.J.

June 21
This morning cloudy and warm I went to the crossroads to church this forenoon Heard Mr Oder preach came home and found some company here J C Norris and wife Luther Norris J T Cox and Lucy Cox This evening I wrote a letter to my friend Emma

June 22
It has been cool all day I worked awhile this forenoon digging around peach trees This afternoon I hoed in the nursery a while and helped Mr Shepard put up some shingles I have felt rather dull today and work went off very slowly and I have not read much

June 23
A very pleasant day I was hoeing peach trees this forenoon This afternoon I helped pick a few cherries and started to Newark with uncle J Howell Got to Elizabethtown about 9 oc Called on Miss E Miller and spent about two hours in her society

June 24
Arrived at Newark about four oclock this morning and attended market with our cherries and chickens Disposed of what we had and after doing some trading started for home After a long weary drive we reached home about sundown. I am very sleepy and tired and shall retire

June 25
A plesant day I have felt very stupid all day from my trip to Newark I have been hoeing peach trees in the nursery and finished up my job This evening I have been reading some in the Phrenological Journal and is half past eight and I shall retire

June 26
A warm day I sawed some shingle timber ten oc and then went to the PO Received a letter from Hattie Emerie and very much dissapointed in not getting one from Emma but so it is and I look with interest to the arrival of a letter from her I have been working this afternoon

June 27
A plesant day I have not done much work today I rode around a part of the afternoon for pass time Came home and found Fletcher Seward and lady and John Bangher and lady and J W Chney and family came soon after We spent a very pleasant evening together

A very warm day I went to uncle J Howells with F Seward and lady this morning and was there until four oc Came home and Eliza and I went down to Mr Cox's and spent the evening I enjoyed myself very well but the thought would occasionaly enter my mind that I was neglecting some of my correspondence

A very warm day I have been saw logs to the mill today
Wrote a letter this evening to cousin Lizzie Doney in anser to one received the 12 My delay is longer than I intended owing to want of time to write

This morning we had a very nice rain I helped saw some shingle timber this forenoon and this afternoon I hauled logs to the mill I wrote two letters this morning one to Hattie Emerie and one to White A Howland Another month has run its round Time movement - how swift

July 1
A very warm day I think it has been the warmest day we have had this summer This fornoon I was hauling logs to the mill and I found it very hard work as they were hard to load I helped to get in some hay this afternoon It is nine oc and I shall retire soon for I am very tired

This has been a very warm day I spent the day hauling logs to the mill and I am very tired this evening but perhaps not more than I would have been had I gone off and spent the day as many others have done  The past week has been remarkably warm

I have been at home all day This fornoon very hot We had a very hard storm this afternoon Commenced about 2 oc and it rained hailed and the wind blew furiously for nearly 2 hours Wrote a letter this evening to Lizzie Doney to answer one received the 3rd

This has been a very warm day I commenced hauling logs
this morning but broke a frame the first load ano had to
get to the shop to get it fixed..I hauled logs this afternoon and I feel sleepy and tired and shall retire early Time passes swiftly by and waits for none



July 7
A very warm day I took one log to the mill this morning came home and plowed some in the peach nursery before dinner This afternoon I helped haul in some hay I received three letters today One from Emma one from sister Mary and one from J B Chaney I read all with pleasure

July 8
This has been a very warm day I was hoeing trees the nurery this forenoon and a part of the afternoon and I finished plowing the nursery through This evening we had a considerable rain and it show signs of a rainy night Wrote Wrote a letter to sister Molly

July 9
Some cooler today I went to Dresden this morning and from there to Aey Meeks Try to buy his crop of fruit (peaches) but could not agree on the price Went from there to J W Chaneys and shall stay here overnight I feel very tired

July 10
Started home from J W Chaneys this morning about 7 oc Stopped at the PO but did not get any news Worked awhile before noon in the nursery and about an hour and a half after dinner The balance of the afternoon I helped haul in hay


 
July 11
This has been a very hot day I have been hoeing peach trees in the nursery and I found it very warm work Worked very faithfully until six oclock and accompanied sister Eliza to Uncle Eds Came home between ten and eleven feeling very sleepy and tired

July 12
This has been a very warm day I did not feel very well this morning and I went to bed after I got my breakfast and slept until 9 oc Commenced a letter to my friend Emma Wrote awhile and postponed it until afternoon Went to church to Chaffants heard Mr Jonson preach Came home and finished writing my letter

July 13
A very warm day I have been hoeing peach trees in the nursery this evening I rode down to Mr Gilmores to see his propect for peaches and to buy the crop if there were enough worth bothering with but his crop will be very light and I did not purchase

July 14
Wrote a letter for mother to Mrs Cone this morning Went to the PO but did not get any news excepting a paper I have felt very dull and stupid all day and have not worked very much Finished hoeing through my nursery this afternoon Uncommon warm

July 15
I have been hauling logs to the mill today but it has been so very hot that I could not do much This evening went over to see Geo. Fulks Found him looking very badly How soon disease reduces a person to utter helplessness and bring them to the gates of death

July 16
Some cooler this forenoon I felt unwell and did not work any This afternoon I took one load of logs to the sawmill Came home and went to Mr Joseph Lakes see Mr Crane about a bill of lumber Did not get it made out to suit me and came home with the understanding that I am to go back


July 17
Not so warm today as some I felt very unwell this morning but after working awhile I felt better I helped father stack hay until about 3 oc at Mr Gilmores I came home feeling very tired Wrote a letter this evening to J B Haney in answer to one received the seventh

July 18
A plesant day I went to the sawmill this morning and carried out some lumber Came home and got a team and went back and brought up a load of lumber It looked considerable like rain but none came It is quite pleasant this evening and I feel quite well

July 19
A warm day I went to Elizabethtown this morning to a quarterly meeting Heard the presiding elder (Mr Phillips) preach a very interesting discourse Also Mr Donahew at 4 oc Spent a very pleasant time with Miss Es. Miller this evening

July 20
Came home from Elizabethtown this forenoon Felt very drowsy and I took a short nap and felt much better I went to the mill this afternoon and piled up some lumber Brought a load home with me We had quite a shower this evening


July 21
I went to the PO this morning Received a letter from Emma Went from the PO to Mr Frey's to get a colt shod and returned to Mr Wise's Came home and hitched up the team and went to the mill after a load of lumber

July 22
A little cooler today I have been hauling lumber from the mill today and am very tired Have been reading some this evening in A.P.J. I do not feel very well tonight and shall soon retire to enjoy refreshing sleep

July 23
A warm day I have been hauling logs to the mill today and bringing lumber back This evening I have been reading some but I feel very tired and sleepy After working hard all day I feel very little like reading when night comes

July 24
This morning I went to the PO Received four letters One from J B Haney Lizzie L Doney Hattie Emerie and Emma I perused them with a great deal of interest and felt highly favored Came home about 9 oc and have been hauling logs to the mill since

 

July 25
Today considerable cooler Hauled logs this forenoon this afternoon piled up some lumber Am very glad it is Saturday evening for I am very tired and tomorrow will be a day of rest I shall retire early and enjoy refreshing sleep

July 26
This has been a very pleasant day I have been at home all day Wrote a letter to Emma also one to Lizzie L Doney Do not feel very well this evening Have a slight touch of headache which is not a common thing with me I shall retire soon

A pleasant day I have been piling up lumber today at the sawmill Came home feeling very tired Wrote a letter this evening to Miss Hattie Emmerie Do not feel very well and shall retire soon to enjoy refeshing sleep

July 28
A pleasant day I have not felt much like work
and have not done a great deal today I dug around some peach trees this forenon This afternoon I helped haul in  some wheat and hay Did not receive any letter today



July 29
Has been threatning rain all day but very little came Hauled a log to the mill this morning and piled up lumber the balance of the day Am very tired this evening Time moves swiftly by and I can not get half as much done as I would like


July 30
This has been a warm day I have been hauling logs to the mill and bringing lumber back This evening I have been reading awhile in the A.P. Journal Feeling very tired I shall soon retire to forget the cares of the day and regain vigor for another days duties

July 31
Time progresses; again I am privileged to note the close of another month and feel thankful for the preservation of life and resonable degree of health Received two letter this morning one from Lizzie and one from Maggie Dobbs which I read with interest Have been digging around some peach trees today.

Went to the sawmill this morning to pile up some lumber Commenced raining soon after I got there and it has been showery all day but it did not come before it was needed for everything was suffering for want of rain This afternoon I buried some grapevines at Uncle Ed's

This has been a very pleasant day I wents to Chaffants to meeting today Heard a funeral sermon by A Moffat Stopped at Mr McConnels for dinner Came home and wrote a letter to counsin Lizzie in answer to one received Friday

Went to the mill this morning after the log wagon but it was in use and I put in the forenoon hauling lumber up This afternoon I did not work much We had a very fine rain this evening Wrote a letter to Henry B Smith

Amite pleasant today This forenoon I was hauling lumber from the mill Digging around peach trees this afternoon Wrote a letter to Miss Maggie Dobbs in answer to one received last Friday I am tired and sleepy and shall retire

A warm day I have been cutting logs today and although I felt very unwell I worked all day Thinking I would work off all unpleasant feelings but did not succeed very well James Nolan called here this evening It is now 11 oc

A very warm day I have worked none Did not sleep much last night and felt very drowsy and bad today Time passes slowly for I feel that I ought to be at work but do not feel able Hope I will feel better tomorrow

A pleasant forenoon I went to the PO this morning after the news I got two letters which I perused with interest One from sister Molly and one from Emma I have been helping thrash this afternoon and this evening I spent an hour or so talking with Eli Feel considerably better than I did yesterday

Went to Dresden this morning thinking I would get home before night but I about put in the day Attended a Democractic meeting while there Came home and piled up alittle lumber and went down to Uncle Eds with Eli Got home about 10 oc

Very cool today Wrote a letter to my friend Emma this fornoon in answer to one received the seventh Went to Carlisle this afternoon to hear the funeral of Mr McKee which was preached from Numbers 23:10 Let me see death of the righteous


Aug 10
Cool today Helped clean vats awhile this morning and went to the sawmill after a load of lumber This afternoon I was hauling saw logs to the mill Feel thankful for the degree of health I enjoy and sympathize with those who are languishing on beds of affliction

Aug 11
Appearance of rain this morning but little came  Cut down a tree for saw logs and cut it up  Went to the mill this evening for a load of lumber  I feel very tired this evening although I have not worked very hard today and I shall retire

Aug 12
Very cool today I hauled logs to the mill and worked very faithfully Hauled six loads and feel like I could enjoy a nights rest and feel better over it I have been rather unwell for some time and I cannot work with as much perseverance as I might having so much to do

Aug 13
A pleasant day for work and I have improved it by hauling lumber from the mill I am alittle tired this evening but a nights rest will remedy that and I hope perpare me for another day of labor Do not feel so very well.

A pleasant day I have been budding peach trees today Harry and Spencer were helping me and we put in 1400 We worked very faithfully This evening I went over to Uncle J Howells received a paper which I have been reading


Aug 15
A very pleasant day Went to a sabbath school celebration up by Kiah. Howells with sister Eliza There were a great many in attendance and everything passed off nicely with the exception of a disturbance in the afternoon raised by some drunken fellows Stayed overnight at Kiahs

Aug 16
Started home this morning Called at Isabelle Chaffons and tarried awhile Got home about noon feeling very badly and I lay down in the bed to sleep but could not Feeling better this evening I concluded to go to. J Chaneys

Aug 17
Am very unwell today Did not sleep much last night Left John Chaneys this morning Called on Mr Meeks but did not find him at home Have been in bed the most of the afternoon feeling very badly

Aug 18
Feel considerable better this morning but am not able to work this morning Have been reading some in the defense of phrenology and in a little pamphlet exposing the rogues of New York in the impositions on the people

Aug 19
This morning we had a nice shower and it has been showing signs of raining all day
I have not done very much on account of not feeling able This evening I went to the mill after some lumber


Aug 20
A pleasant time for work and I have improved today This fornoon I was splitting logs This afternoon I was budding in the peach nursery We worked very faithfully and put in about 650 I feel
quite well this evening

Aug 21
Went to the PO this morning Received a letter from Emma also one from Lizzie Went to Dresden station this afternoon with a load of peaches which I shipped to Voight Mayhood and Co. to sellon com. Do not feel very well this evening Shall retire soon

Aug 22
A warm day I have been hauling logs to the mill and feel very tired and am not very well in the bargain I think I have closed up my working at home for some time to come
I commenced a letter to my friend Emma but did not finish it

This has been a long day to me I have been unwell and have been in bed nearly all day Read some in Phrenological Jounal Finished writing a letter to my friend Emma but it was considerble a task

Aug 24
Am very unwell this morning but I packed up and started for Pittsburgh Rode down to Dresdem with Uncle Ed in the buggy Left Dresden about five oc and arrived in Pittsburgh about 12oc Secured a bed and following visitors I shall retire


Aug 25
Started out this morning to make arrangement about selling fruit but I have been unwell and could not travel around very well Feel to much better this evening Wrote a letter Dr E Cone

A very pleasant day I have felt quite well today I have succeeded very well in getting rid of my peaches and am very much pleased with my occupation I like to see business moving and there is a good opportunity Wrote a letter to E Cone

Aug 27
A pleasant day I arose at half past four this morning went to the express office and found some peaches Made several sales and came back to breakfast at 4 oc I have felt very well today Read awhile this evening and retired about 9 oc

Aug 28
Some rain today and the heaviness of
the atmosphere has made me feel drowsy Did not receive any peaches this morning and had nothing to do I have spent the day running around and feel some tired tonight

Arose this morning at half past 3 Went to the express office and found 16 boxes of peaches Sold them from the platform Came back to my breakfast I have been writing letters this evening Wrote one to E Cone H Meeks John Chaney and one home

A warm day This is my first sabbath in Pittsburgh I went to church this forenoon to Christ ME church Heard a very interesting discourse Went to Presbyterian Church this evening but was not much edified Heard a written discourse from Timothy 3:16

Another day gone by and with it another closes Times movements Oh how fleet and how soon are they gone to return no more I received three letters this morning one from E Cone H B Smith and Hattie Emerie Wrote three one to T Campbell
