Pitzer, Mr. John - The Coshocton Age Friday November 6, 1868 - (From the Newark American Oct 30) - We are pained to be obliged to record another suicide in our midst, but the circumstances connected with the death of Mr. John Pitzer, on last Monday, evince too plainly the deliberate execution of the purpose to take his life. He was the son of James Pitzer, a respected citizen, well known in the community, living on Claylick about four miles from the city. John was about 20 years old, and of good habits. It appears that he had formed an attachment to a young lady, whose parents objected to him, it is said, on account of his lameness. He had called at the house of the young lady on Sunday evening and had been told that it would be better not to come any more. ON Monday he procured a revolver, went over to the house of a neighbor and relative, and bade the lady goodbye, saying with tears in his eyes, that he was going away. He then came up the road to the bank of Claylick, where he opened his vest, and fired one ball from the revolver, which penetrated the heart, and he must almost have died instantly. A young man by the name of Murphy found him laying on the ground and gave the alarm. He was then taken to his father?s house. He was buried on Tuesday. - Submitted by: Norma Karter nckarter@flash.net
