The Family of Lewis and Mary Meitzler

Taken in the 1920s at the home of Jacob and Elizabeth Meitzler McQueen Lewis Meitzler was born May 15, 1847 in Marienthal, Bavaria, Germany, the son of Charles and Philabena Wentz Meitzler. When he was 2 years old, the family sailed from Havre, France for the United States. On the way his mother contracted cholera and died aboard ship and was buried at sea. Lewis and his father came on to Tuscarawas County where they had family and later Charles (Karl) purchased the farm in Crawford Twp, Coshocton Co, Ohio.

On October 19, 1871, Lewis married Miss Mary Miller of Baltic, daughter of Frederick and Rosena Schneider Miller. Mary was born on January 23, 1853 on the family farm in Bucks twp, Tuscarawas Co, Ohio. Seven children were born to them – four girls and three boys.

Mary Meitzler died June 30, 1929 (age 76) and Lewis died December 14, 1929 (age 82) They are buried at Halifax Zion Evangelical Church Cemetery less than a mile from their home.
