Carnahan, Thompson - July 20, 1876: Coshocton Age - Thompson Carnahan - We regret to learn that Thompson Carnahan, former Superintendent of the Roscoe Union School, died at his residence near Bakesville, this county, last Thursday, the 13th inst., of Paralysis. The deceased was aged 35 years, and was highly esteemed and respected by all who knew him. Submitted by: Sandy Payne

CARTEN, Wm. - The Progressive Age June 6, 1860 Wednesday - Wm. CARTEN, a lad of about 7 years, and the son of a very respected widow lady, lost his life in the following manner as we learn: On last Thursday evening, when the 3 o?clock train came in, he, as we are told is customary with the boys frequenting the Depot, got on the cars to take a ride to the water tank, a short distance below the Depot. The train did not stop this time at the tank and Wm. becoming alarmed at the prospect of being carried away from home jumped from the cars and received internal wounds which caused his death Sunday evening. - Submitted by: Norma Karter nckarter@flash.net

CARTON, Mary M. Martter - From the Coshocton Tribune 17 February 1971(Wednesday) - Deaths and Funerals Mrs. Mary Carton - Mrs. Mary M. Carton, 69, of 2045 Buena Vista Dr., died at 10:10 pm. Tuesday at Coshocton County Memorial Hospital, where she has been a patient two weeks. She was born June 12 1901 in Coshocton, a daughter of Jay W. and Frances Ann Guinther Martter. In 1924, she was married to Robert Carton, former city prosecutor and municipal judge, who died in 1959. Mrs. Carton formerly was employed at the Shaw-Barton Co. plant and at the Coshocton Tribune. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Joseph E. (Eloise), Martin, 2045 Buena Vista Dr.; two grandchildren, and one great grandchild; four sisters; Mrs. Marjorie M. Bechtol, Canal, Lewisville; Mrs. J. Robert, (Madeline), Hinds, New Port Richey, Fla.; Mrs. Lauress, (Eloise), David, Canton, and Mrs. J. B. (Agnes), Milligan, Coshocton Route 4; three brothers, James T. Martter, Warsaw, Kenneth E. Martter, Conesville, and Clarence, (Ike), Martter, West Palm Beach Fla. One brother is deceased. Mass of the Resurrection will be at 10:00 am. Friday at Sacred Heart Church. Burial will be at South Lawn Cemetery. Calling hours will be observed at the Dawson Funeral Home, 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 pm. CARTON, Robert A. - From The Coshocton Tribune 25 May 1959(Monday) - Municipal Judge Robert A. Carton Is Claimed Sunday Municipal Judge Robert Anthony Carton, 60, of 1233 South fourteenth st., died at 9 am. Sunday at County Memorial hospital from pulmonary embolism, (blood clot). For three days, he had been a patient in the hospital following an operation for a hernia. Mr. Carton had served about 15 months of his first term as municipal judge at the time of his death. Judge Carton, a practicing lawyer in Coshocton for 30 years, was born June 13, 1898 in this city, a son of Thomas and Mary Florence Pigman Carton, and was married Oct. 20, 1924 to the former Mary Martter, who survives. He was a graduate of Sacred Heart High school and attended Dayton and Georgetown Universities and John Marshall College of Law. A few years prior to his becoming municipal judge, Jan 1, 1958, he and his nephew, Attorney Robert C. Weaver, practiced law in the same office at 407 1/2 Main St. Judge Carton served as city solicitor from 1932 to 1938 and prosecuting attorney from 1949 to 1957. He was a member of Sacred Heart church, Knights of Columbus, Holy Name Society, Elks Lodge, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Coshocton County, Ohio State and American Bar Associations. Judge Carton, a veteran of World War 1, was a newspaper man before he became an attorney. At one time, he was a reporter on the Coshocton Tribune. During World War 1, he served in Battery A., 16th Field Artillery; he was honorably discharged March 21, 1919. Surviving besides the widow are a daughter, Mrs. Joseph Martin Dennison; a brother, Thomas A. Carton, local shoe merchant; sister, Mrs. Frances X. Weaver, 222 South 4th st., and two grandchildren. A brother and sister are deceased. Services will be held at 9 am. Wednesday at Sacred Heart church in charge of Msgr. Joseph E. McGlynn. Burial will be in South Lawn cemetery. Rosary services will be held at 8 pm. Tuesday at the Glass funeral home. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 pm. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. CROWLEY, Joseph B. - Progressive Age Oct 28, 1857 Wednesday - Joseph B. CROWLEY one of Coshocton Volunteers in the Mexican War died in Lewisville on Saturday the 24th. His funeral was attended by two military companies of this place on Sunday. Although it was a very wet disagreeable day his funeral was largely attended. COX, Mrs. Florence Ruth -69, Millersburg, formerly of Coshocton, died Sunday evening at Pomerene Memorial Hospital. Born Sept. 19, 1900 in Holmes County, she was a daughter of C. C. and Mary Melissa Henes McClain. She was married in November 1945 to Virgil E. Cox, who died July 8, 1969. Mrs. Cox lived in Washington D.C. and Coshocton until her husband's death. Since then she had made her home with her nephew, J. Virgil Ling, and brother-in-law, William Ling, in Millersburg. Survivors include a niece and nephew; an aunt and two cousins. Deceased are three brothers and a sister. Services are at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Elliott-Hartline Funeral Home in Millersburg, with Rev. Ronald Boldman officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday evening. (Obituary dated January 26, 1970)

CULLISON, Kensey S. - Progressive Age July 25, 1855 Wednesday - On the 6th Kensey S. CULLISON, youngest son of Shadrick Cullison, died aged 16 years, 3 months and 20 days. Crawford, Bernice Hartman - From The Coshocton Tribune 12 May 1965 (Wednesday) - Crawford Services Services for Mrs. Bernice Hartman Crawford, 77, Canton, formerly of Coshocton, who died Monday night in a Canton hospital, will be held at 3 pm., (DST) Thursday at the Welsch funeral home in Canton. Burial will be in a Canton cemetery. Mrs. Crawford was born in Coshocton County and was married to John Crawford, who died in 1958. Crawford, John W. - From the Coshocton Tribune 12 March 1958(Wednesday) - John W. Crawford - Services for John W. Crawford, 68, native of Coshocton, who died March 2 at his home in Canton, were held March 5 in that city and burial was in Forest Hill Cemetery. Mr. Crawford had been employed with the maintenance department of the city of Canton for 28 years. He moved to that city from Coshocton in 1919. The son of Sherman and Elmira Caley Crawford, he was married to the former Bernice Hartman of Coshocton, who survives, along with three sons, Charles, James, and Clarence Crawford, all of Canton; three daughters, Mrs. Lester Crawford, this city, Mrs. Harold Beck, San Diego, Calif., and Mrs. Harold Fertgus, Canton - Submitted by:Kelly ImKellybar@aol.com

Curtain, John - From the Coshocton Daily Times December 3 1909 (Friday) - John Curtain Dies in Pittsburg - Squire Wimmer was notified Friday of the death of his brother-in-law, John Curtain, at the age of 72.
