      My ancestor, Ebenezer Williamson (1841-1937), was born at White Eyes, Coshocton Co., Ohio, and died at Eldon, Wapello Co., Iowa.
      Served as a private in Co. C 51st Ohio Vol. Inf. Enlisted 9/3/1861 - Mustered 9/17/1861 - Discharged 12/30/1862.
      Re-Enlisted 5/2/1864 in Co. C 143rd Ohio Inf. - Mustered 5/15/1864 - Discharged 9/13/1864.
      The above information is from his Pension records. I am still going over this file for additional information. He was not wounded, but suffered from chronic ailments.

  • John D. Baker, age 19, a farmer, enlisted and was mustered in Company H, 51st Regiment of the Ohio Infantry Volunteers at Newark, Ohio on 26 February 1864 and served continuously through his discharge date. His service included a stay in the hospital at Nashville, Tenn. beginning June 12, 1865 through 12 August 1865 when he was detailed to the Judge Advocate's Office at Nashville, Tenn. By this time, his company and regiment were in Victoria, Texas. His file shows that John D. Baker served on detail as an orderly with the JA's office until 13 November 1865. The muster rolls indicate he was mustered out with the rest of the company and regiment on 3 October 1865 at Victoria, Texas. However, his official orders to return to Columbus for muster-out were dated 14 November 1865 at Nashville, Tennessee.

    Note: John D. Baker (1845-1917) lived in Coshocton County most of his life, marrying in 1866 Charlotte Hawk Newell (1842-1916), a widow with a young son. Charlotte and John had five sons and two daughters; all lived to adulthood. Many of their descendants still live in the area. John and Charlotte Baker were buried in Plainfield Cemetery, Linton Twp.

    Isaiah Abednego Baker, age 23, a farmer, enlisted with Company H of the 51st Regiment OVI on 15 February 1865. It was his second enlistment, the first in Company D, 16th Regiment OVI, discharge date of 18 Aug 1861. He joined the 51st OVI at Huntsville, Alabama in March 1865. Isaiah was mustered out October 3, 1865 at Victoria, Texas and died enroute to Ohio on the regimental hospital train near near Cairo, Illinois 26 October 1865. Isaiah left a widow, Nancy J. Booth Baker, but no surviving children. His grave site is in Claypoint Cemetery, Lafayette Twp.
